What do you think will happen with the Blue-ray vs. HD-dvd battle?
First Sony says "Spider-man 3" will be a blue-ray exclusive. Now Paramount/Dreamworks says "Transformers" will be an hd-dvd exclusive. I haven't upgraded to either, but we consumers are the ones getting screwed in the process. It's bad enough as a video gamer having to consider buying two expensive systems because of all of the exclusives for good products, but shouldn't movies have a standard format? What do you think will or should happen with the next-gen dvd battle?

- Blu-ray over the long term says I!
- One will be picked, like VHS or Beta. Beta died out and VHS was top dog for years
DVD format is still out there, however the next step is HD DVD or Blue-Ray, dont upgrade yet. Wait until one of the two give up. and those exclusive will come out on the other format or will be lost to the stock piles
- blue-ray will win
- I think they should make all dvds regulars . If they want to make the Hd or the Blue Ray thats fine too. Just always make movies available for regular asz dvd. If I were to switch to blue ray , I would have to drop close to a thousand dollars for the player and even more to replace all my dvds now . Its ridiculous , and a rip off . Dvd is good enough for me , that why you watch movies in the theater , so you can watch it once when its in Hi Def or crystal clear or whatever . ! Only rich people are going to get those things , I hate socialites! Henga
- Well, Paramount recently dropped Blu-Ray in favor of HD. Both of these hold 50Gb. An indian company developed a 1 Terabyte disc that is the same physical size. They will have 5TB on the market within a year, so I think that will kill both Blu-ray and HD.
- Most new players play both. One will die but I dont think it will be by consumer choice, more which is more economical, better engineered etc and it will be the industry choice.
- The same problem occurred in the 70's when the battle between 8 tracks and cassettes, and cassettes were more popular with consumers. It also happened between The developers of laser disks, current DVD technology and Disney which had developed a similar technology. In the end, the creators of DVD won out and Disney was force to adapt to fit the adopted form. You'll notice that DVD's from disney are labled Disney DVD.
Personally, I think that the HD-DVD will win out, because it will de easier to create a machine which can play both types of disk on the same device.
It is usually a good idea to wait two or three years before buying new technology in order to avoid this type of problem. Just ask any of those people who purchased laser disk players in the 90's or 8 tracks in the 70's.
- Personally, as far as gaming consoles go, blue-ray. Sony's PS3 comew with a free BD (Blue-ray Disc) player because all of its games are BD. Xbox 360 comes with and HD DVD player, but it costs extra. The average consumer wouldn't spend extra to get it because there is no deffinit outcome to the battle, and because the only REAL reason to get the 360 is for the highly anticipated Halo 3 and for the famous Gears of War. The PS3 doesn't have any exclusive game that would motivate anyone to buy the console. Their only gimic is that the PS3 is a dedicated machine for gaming and if your not into gaming then its amuch cheaper BD player. Sony owns Sony Pictures which manufactures a large amount of movies and they will almost deffinitly make all their movies DVD and BD or exclusively BD. If they made it BD only, then they might not sell as many because of lack of motivation to purchase a BD player. But on the other hand if they do make all the movies BD only then they may convince consumers to buy the BD player or PS3 so they can see their movies on HD TVs and in much better quality then DVD. So basically BD will win in my opinion and microsoft will lose...again...They lost to Apple with the ipod and gay-ass zune, they lost to Google on the search engine market, and they WILL lose to Sony on the BD vs. HD DVD market.
