  1. I'd go to eBay if you want something original. Anything out now is going to be geared specifically for the film.

  2. If price is not an option, then you can go on eBay and search for a "vintage" or "original" Optimus Prime from the 80's... They can go for $49.99 used or out of box but complete, to a couple hundred for Original and Mint in Box versions. I was watching a video blog about how for the movie, they changed some of the characteristics of many of the characters, as well as powers, etc. One good example: the original Optimus Prime did not throe flames. So, if you want to stay as true to the character possible, go for vintage!!! Good Luck!!!

  3. They're essentially the same figure but packaged differently. I own the MP-01 Convoy figure that Takara distributed. It's more expensive than the 20th Anniversary figure released in the United States by Hasbro. The packaging is clearly different. The box for the MP-01 figure contains a box insert that you can assemble into Convoy's trailer. For collectors, I'd argue that the MP-01 toy is more valuable than the 20th Anniversary toy. But I'd also tell you that just about anything made by Hasbro is c-r-a-p. Takara is the premier manufacturer and distributor of Transformers toys. Takara also released the Transformers Convoy and trailer toy, known as MP-04. The figure is identical to MP-01 but includes a "real" toy trailer based upon the design of the original generation one toy trailer. If you have the money and can find one, I'd definitely buy this--for both playability and collectible purposes--because it's an ultimate toy for Transformers fans. One difference you'll notice between Takara's Convoy and the 20th Anniversary Prime released by Hasbro is the "battle damage" on Prime's torso. Takara's doesn't have that (thank goodness!). There's also a 20th Anniversary DVD Prime toy. I've provided links to galleries of all the toys below. You'll notice the 20th Anniversary DVD Prime has a slightly different color scheme and its accessories are painted differently than either Takara's version or the "regular" 20th Anniversary figure. Again, I'd go with the MP-01 or, if you have the money and can find one, the MP-04 Convoy toy. Thanks for your question. Finally, if money is truly no object, then you might like to know that you can order a 6.5-feet tall Optimus Prime statue (woo-hoo!).
