Transformers Movie Info

Can somebody please explain the storyline between Season 2 to Season 3 in the G1 Transformers cartoons?

So I'm watching "Season 2, Part 2" of G1 Transformers that I own on Rhino DVD's. The last episode of "Season 2, Part 2" is called "B.O.T" (Production Code : 700-64). I then proceed onto "Season 3, Part 1" and the first episode there is called "The Five Faces of Darkness Pt.1" (Production Code : 700-86). Suddenly, Optimus Prime is no longer the leader; Rodimus Prime is. The narrator starts to speak : "The great wars are over. The Autobots have won. The surviving Decepticons, without a leader and desparately low on Energon retreat into the burnt out planet of Char..." What happened in between?! According to "tv.com" I haven't missed any episodes in between but this storyline doesn't make any sense. Lil' help?

   Spoiler warning (movie details below)

   In the movie Optimus Prime was killed by Megatron in a final assault on Earth. In the process Megatron was terminally injured and thrown from Astrotrain by Starscream to save weight.

   Unicron a planet-sized transformer whose sole purpose was to devour worlds discovered the dying Megatron floating helplessly through space. In exchange for a new body (changing Megatron to Galvatron), Galvatron agreed to be Unicron's slave. Galvatron was instructed to destroy the autobot matrix of leadership which was passed from Optimus Prime to UltraMagnus on Optimus' death bed.

   Galvatron, being as greedy and power hungry as Megatron was decides to use the Matrix of leadership to try and make Unicron into his slave, but he is unable to access the power of the matrix. As punishment for his insubordination, Cybertron is attacked by Unicron bringing the full force of the Autobots and decepticons against the planet devouring Unicron.

   Somewhere inside Unicron, Galvatron discovers the Autobot Hot Rod. Unicron senses that Hot Rod CAN release the power of the Matrix and forces Galvatron to try and destroy Hot Rod. Hot Rod accidently releases the power of the Matrix and ultimately transforms into the new Autobot leader Rhodimus Prime. Rhodimus Prime throws Galvatron into space and sends him drifting aimlessly for several months. The power of the Matrix also serves to destroy Unicron.

   Season 3 resumes with Unicron destroyed. Galvatron floating in space, the Autobots occupying Cybertron, and the Decepticons in disarray.

   It is later learned that Galvatron went crazy while floating in space. The Quintisons (the five faced ones) are responsible for the creation of Unicron, The Autobot Matrix of leadership and the transformers.

   GET THE MOVIE. IT IS FAAAAR BETTER THAN THE TV SHOWS. Be warned, alot of the characters from season 1 are killed in the movie, and some of your favorite characters will die in a less than glorious way.
