Transformers 2 Stupid Accusations?

OK. Here's what everybody is saying about Transformers 2: Way too long, no plot, humorless, Skids and Mudflap are racist, and way too long. If movies that are long are bad, why do so many people love Titanic which is like 3 hours long. Roots is over 8 hours long and people loved it. Also, how is there no plot? Optimus wants to know why the Decepticons haven't left Earth despite the Allspark being destroyed. It turns out the Falln, the true leader of the Decepticons, wants the power of the sun. Only a Prime can defeat him, so he sends Megatron to kill Optimus, which he does. Sam then has to find out why he's seeing the symbols in his head, which the Decepticons wants to find the Matrix. Sam finds out what the symbols mean after meeting Jetfire, finds the Matrix, and revives Optimus, who kills the Fallen before he can steal the sun's power. Not that difficult to understand. I followed the plot through the whole movie. About Skids and Mudflap being racist, how!? My father is Italian and my stepbrother is African-American and they're both from the ghetto, and they didn't find them racist whatsoever. And howis the movie humorless? Skids and Mudflap are comedy releif. Plus it was pretty funny to me when that government jerk got stranded in the middle of the Sahara desert. Now I don't see anything wrong with the movie. Anybody wants to disagree? I can keep debating all night long. I definitely think Transformers 2 is better than stupid movies like Up, Time Traveler's Wife, Orphan, Terminator Salvation, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (however X-Men wasn't stupid, I will say that it was awesome, just not as good as ROTF).

  1. I totally agree with you! When I heard the accusations that the film had absolutely no plot I had to laugh. The people making those allegations must have slept through the first half and woke up to watch a bunch of fighting. There was definitely a storyline and you summed it up perfectly. If this film doesn't have a storyline then how does the first one?

Also, about Skids and Mudflap being racist...I disagree. They're personifying a group of viewers that does act and talk that way. Yes, some of the things about them were a little iffy, but mostly they just reminded me of Flava Flav from MTV. Is he racist? I know he's black, but come on...how dumb can you get?

  2. I agree with you 100% I enjoyed the movie a lot and I actually thought it was better than the first one. Yes most of the movie was pretty much action but hey that's what movies are for they're supposed to entertain us. I don't see how it's racist in fact I think it's not racist at all. Yes the movie would've been better but who wants to sit 3 hours watching them ¨develop¨ a better plot. What I'm saying is Transformers 2 was great and I hope they keep up the good job for the 3rd one.

  3. The length of the movie is just a way for people to say that they were bored throughout the movie. I agree with you. The length shouldn't be a negative. Look at The Godfather, Watchmen, The Dark Knight, etc.

The plot thing is a little different. As with every movie, there was a plot. This is what people are talking about when they say there is no plot: The plot that WAS in the movie lacked substance. The plot in the first Transformers had a lot of substance and meat. Revenge of the Fallen was not AS GOOD in the plot department as the first one. But it was still really good. The movie has better action.

As far as Skidz and Mudflap are concerned, they are only as racist as people want to make them out to be. They were not racist. HOWEVER, they DID project racial stereotypes that could be construed as negative. There is a difference, but many people prefer to blur the line in between racism and a projection of stereotypes.

I pesonally could have done without the humor. It definitely was funny. But I would have preferred they kept it a little more serious. The mother kind of pissed me off. Skidz and Mudflap were ok but I felt they were the Transformers equivilent of Jar Jar Binks. And John Turturro (who played former Sector 7 Agent Simms) is a great actor and I didn't like that he was reduced to showing his a$$.

All in all I loved the movie. Not much substance to the plot, too much humor, yes. But a lot of amazing action and the plot it DOES have, was pretty good. I think the first one is better, but the second is really good.

  4. Ha, defending transfomers lol

Transfomers isn't just bad because it is long

it is bad AND it is long

two and a half hours of awfulness is worse than 85 minutes of awfulness

I felt that humour was really forced, unfunny and just fell flat

the so called story was incredibly incoherent

there was little or no time devoted to characterization

    Michael bay cannot direct

It was in my opinion a very bad film

but if your idea of a good movie is megan fox's cleavage with cgi robots mashing into each other in the background then you are welcome to watch it

  5. First off...I don't see a question here. Just sayin'.

Second...the fact that you said Up was stupid just completely brought you down a level.

Now, I didn't have a problem with anything being too long, as long as it's good. Your examples (Roots, Titanic) are highly regarded as cinematic masterpieces...based on the talk about Transformers 2, it doesn't look good.

Now, about the plot, the two things that people don't like about the plot of Transformers 2 was that 1) it was confusing and 2) it went off course a lot of the time. Despite the fact that I already saw the movie, I have absolutely no clue what you were talking about in your third paragraph. And even then, if I did get a lot of the plot down, there is still the problem that the writers went off course to the humans way too much, in my opinion (Shia, Megan). It's the exact same criticism I give to the indie film "The Fox and the Child"...if there were no humans involved, I probably would have liked it more.
